Creating a hair theme for a big-production catwalk show isn’t just about turning up and doing a speedy blow-dry! The stylists creating the hair looks at fashion shows are as essential to creating drama as the music or the clothes.
Michael Quinn is a relative newcomer to the scene but is building a reputation for fashion-friendly creations that work beautifully with the collections on show.
“As the fashions of the season are feminine, with lots of floral prints and soft colours, hairstyles naturally follow suit,” notes Michael. “Hair this season has lots of movement and bouncy curls, for fresh, flirty looks that are perfect for welcoming in warm weather. At Magners Light Spring into Summer we went for a fresh, feminine look with a quiff.”
Catwalk hair is one thing but can us mere mortals achieve runway glamour like ‘we just stepped out of a salon?’
Michael explains, “If you invested in a pair of straighteners from the time when everything was sleek and defined, don’t worry! To achieve the bouncy, curly look - Straighteners are also fantastic for creating curl. Spray sections of hair with Matrix Airtrix and run your straighteners through your hair slowly, gently rolling them as you go. Work in small sections, as you would with curling tongs. To finish off, you can spritz the hair with a bit of Matrix Shine Spray. An easier way of creating this look is using heated rollers, which you can put in and leave while you apply your makeup, etc.To incorporate the quiff, lift a section from the front of your hair, backcomb it and pin it up.”
