When I think of Urban Decay make-up I immediately think of my glitter-packed lip gunk lip gloss and shimmering sparkling eyeshadows: flawless skin isn't really in the mix but don't dismiss this funky make-up brand as only exceling at colour - their new Surreal Skin Cream to Powder Foundation (£18.00) and Ultra Definition finishing powders are a complete revelation!
The compact itself is gorgeous (pictured left) with translucent purple packaging but the compact foundation within is as far away as you can get from traditional crème compact foundations like Elizabeth Arden Flawless finish in 'toasty beige' ARGH! Is there anyone on the planet whose skin colour is actually 'toasty beige'? No there is not! Anyhoo - I digress....
The foundation is billed as transforming to a micro fine powder on contact with the skin - and as much as it is a really lovely texture - I can't say this powder transformation happened with my skin.
The product felt moist on the skin but the best bit was that you could blend it away to nothing across the cheeks and build it up around the nose or on any little flaws so the skin looked flawless and remarkably natural without looked caked in a heavy foundation.
For application - I would advise using a good quality foundation brush - you could use your fingers but all the double dipping is a little unhygienic - ick! The brush with comes with the compact is a little too wide for but good for large areas like cheeks and foreheads. You'll need something smaller to work around your features.
The Razor Sharp Ultra Definition Finishing Powder (£17.00) is a super-super fine powder - no wonder they named it Razor Sharp! The packaging comes with a rather strange powder puff applicator that you just pat onto the skin and the powder infuses from the inside. Excellent novelty factor but I found it puffed a lot of powder into the air, which caused a rather strange layer of powder-dust to form on my dressing table. You can just unscrew the top and apply using a regular powder puff.
Urban Decay is available from selected Boots, Debenhams, and House of Fraser Stores.
