Gone are the days when I spent my early twenties socialising on what was Belfast’s most happening part of town – The Golden Mile. Do you remember the MClub? Oh yes I was a regular at the groovy train on a Friday evening, followed by an evening snack at Spuds.
This part of Belfast has been seen as the under dog on the social scene in recent years, but that’s all about to change as the addition of some fantastic new hip and stylist venues brings the sparkle back!
Fantastic eateries such as Archana, Souls Restaurant, and Brooklyn Sq have attracted foodies back to the stretch of road in the last few years, spanning from the Movie House to the start of the Lisburn Road.
Great bars including The five points and Filthy Mcnastys, are bringing back the live music and fantastic watering holes, which once made this area the place to be and be seen.
The latest venture from local entrepreneur Gary McCausland, The Gallery, has added further glamour to the area and we were lucky to be invited to the official opening last month where the theme of the evening was very apparent – a unique Dublin Road venue, from local people, for local people!
The café brings the industrial chic of New York’s meatpacking district to the streets of Belfast and features an elegant open-plan restaurant, bar and art gallery which has been designed according to the concept of Feng Shui by leading local expert Master San Wu.
With its contemporary metropolitan style, with floor to ceiling windows, Philippe Starck ghost chairs, chalkboard menus and bespoke crystal chandeliers, the Gallery Café Bar has already made its mark as one of the most eye-catching destinations in Belfast.
Split across a ground floor and mezzanine level, which can accommodate up to 150 people, the Gallery Café Bar is the perfect spot for a private party!
From locally sourced menus, extensive wine list, bespoke décor and the stunning art on display from local artists such as Colin Davidson, Brian Ballard and William Conor, there’s so much to enjoy at this cool new venue.
The culinary team have created a diverse menu reflecting the café’s cosmopolitan theme. You can enjoy locally sourced & organic dishes such as – homemade stacked pancakes, tapas, Tuscan fish stew, Falafel burger and a freshly made patisserie selection. They also host a menu for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free visitors.
The food offering is complemented by an extensive drinks menu, featuring organic coffee, teas & a selection of wines from JN Wine. The Gallery’s bespoke cocktail menu featuring signature cocktails and boasting the best gins in Belfast, is certain to become a winner in the coming months.
Customer service is something which I would be particularly tough on, but the team at The Gallery have nailed it. I special thanks has to go to manager Ruairi McGrane, who’s enthusiasm was infectious at the launch.
The staff were warm and welcoming. The service was top class and nothing was an issue for this splendid hospitality team.
The Sugha Gals can’t wait to hit this chic new venue for drinks and dinner in the coming weeks…. I feel a full review coming on!
The Gallery is open all day and offers a breakfast, lunch and bistro menu, with late nights on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. For further information visit their website.
