The DJ brother of rock's most famous siblings - Noel and Liam Gallagher - has said he's happy doing his own thing and has no regrets about not joining Oasis.

Paul Gallagher, the eldest of the three brothers and a successful DJ with a residency in a Belgium nightclub, said it was his love of music which influenced Noel and Liam when they were growing up and that he was never made to feel that he was in their shadow.

Paul will be in Northern Ireland this week to DJ in the run-up to the Oasis concert at Slane Castle this weekend. He'll be DJing at Sandino's in Derry tomorrow (WED) and the Duke of York on Thursday, before heading to Dublin on Friday night.

He said: "I used to manage bands myself but gave it up after 10 years or so. It's a fine way to lose money.

"I've a few other things in the pipeline, but the DJing takes up most of my time. I have a residency in Belgium and DJ all over Europe. This will be my first time doing so many nights in Ireland though and I'm really looking forward to it.

"I never wanted to be in Oasis. I do my own thing and that's fine by me. Other people try to wind me up by asking me how I feel about Noel and Liam living in another world from me, but I point out that they're living in another world from most people, so it doesn't bother me.

"I never felt like I was in their shadows at all. I do what I do, they do what they do.

"When we were growing up I was a mod. I'd the haircut, the parka, the suits, the whole shebang. There was me and my mate, the only two mods in orur area. We used to go on scooter runs to Scarborough, just the two of us, and let on we were in Brighton.

"Now I read interviews where our Noel saying's he always been a big fan of The Specials and The Jam, and I'm like ‘really?'."

Paul, who played Thompson's in Belfast last year, said his superstar siblings never come along to his DJ sets.
"I'm glad they don't, they'd only take over," he said.

And he denied the Gallagher name opened doors for him, particularly at home in the UK.  "Are you joking?" he said. "When they hear my name in clubs in England, they want to throw me out. It's different in Europe, they welcome me there, but not at home. In London, the crowds tend to be too posey."

Paul said he had a better relationship with Liam than Noel, because he saw more of him. "I suppose I get on better with Liam, I tend to see him more for a few pints," he said.  "Noel's alright though. He's a bit quieter, he's more of a thinker.

"We don't exactly all meet up for big get togethers, it's not as civilised as that. I did spend last weekend with Liam and was just talking to Noel the other night about Manchester City buying Carlos Tevez.

"But I'm well used to being the other Gallagher brother by now, I've had 19 years of it."

Paul, who was at Oasis's first Slane appearance in 1995, said he still had no contact with his father, with whom the three boys had a well-documented relationship. Paul penned a book entitled Brothers: Childhood to Oasis, about growing up with an abusive father and its effect on the Gallagher boys.

He said: "As far as I know he's still living in the same house we left him in in Manchester in 1985," he said.
"He's gone to the papers, trying to sell stories, and he's always banging on about Noel and Liam, like I don't exist. That's just the way it is."

*Paul Gallagher will be DJing in Sandinos, Derry on Wednesday night (June 17) and the Duke of York in Belfast on Thursday (June 18) night.
