Belfast Celebrates the Black Stuff

By Claire Toner
For the first time since its launch in 2009, Arthur's Day is coming to Belfast.
While celebrations to mark the legacy of Arthur Guinness at 17.59 on September 22nd are recognized around the world- the past two years have seen Dublin play host to a number of acclaimed international and Irish acts giving performances in bars and venues across the city in tribute.
The musical celebrations spread to Galway and Cork last year but this September for the first time they have surged and settled North of the Border. Artists like the Scissor Sisters, Stereophonics, Paloma Faith, Calvin Harris and Aloe Blacc could be gracing a pub near you.
Belfast will be hosting both a large studio performance and more intimate pub gigs around the city. If you're interested in joining in the festivities, tickets go on sale from Ticketmaster on August 4th but there is a catch - the line-up for the smaller gigs will not be announced so ticket holders will only know who they have paid to see when the singing begins!
In 2009 lucky punters in one Dublin pub were treated to a sing-a-long with Tom Jones who kicked off the celebrations with a storming set of his greatest hits including 'It's Not Unusual', 'Delilah' and 'Kiss'.
Last year Tinie Tempah played at Fitzsimons in Dublin, Biffy Clyro played The Temple Bar, Snow Patrol performed at the Odeon and Westlife even made an appearance at The Bank so expect some great surprises!
All ticket proceeds from Arthur's day go directly to the Arthur Guinness Fund, so bag your ticket, sit back and enjoy a pint of the black stuff while listening to some great music this Arthur's Day.
