Belfast Just Can’t Get Enough of The Saturdays

The Saturdays preformed at the Odyssey Arena on Sunday night (18th December) in the penultimate leg of their 'All Fired Up' tour. The Saturdays have successfully adopted the crown of teenage girl pop from Girls Aloud, creating a brand that is as much about what they wear and how they look as it is about how and what they sing.

The audience of mainly teenage girls in Belfast were impressed with the whole package offered by the five-piece. The girls looked stunning in sparkle and shimmer throughout- and Una, who is almost five months pregnant, pulled off the most glamorous and risqué maternity wear that I have ever seen- while taking a break for just one song to allow the other girls to perform a seriously sexy dance routine.

The concept of the night was eras- the Saturdays kicked off the night in a scene from 1950's New York with their hit Notorious. While younger members of the audience were stirred into a frenzy every time the group spoke, semi-naked male dancers provided eye-candy for the mums who had been dragged along with their teens.

Chat from Frankie and co. was interspersed between songs while they caught a breath, and while much of it seemed scripted- they all appeared most excited when discussing the 'New Saturday' in Una's tum.

As 'Moves Like Jagger' is my guilty pleasure regardless of how overplayed it is- a personal highlight was the mash-up of it and The Saturday's first single 'If This Is Love'.

The girls finished with 'All Fired Up'- with an encore that saw pictures of them as babies and children on Christmas Day, 1995 displayed on the big screens while they sang 'Walking in a Winter Wonderland' and 'My Heart Takes Over' dressed in Sexy Santa outfits.

While the audience was covered in fake snow to get us well and truly into the Christmas spirit, the five girls launched into 'Higher' as the absolute finale- which had everyone on their feet.

The Saturdays know how to please their fans and the gaggle of teenage gals around me left the concert beaming from ear to ear. As someone who grew up with the Spice Girls- I have to say that I'm more excited in anticipation for what the new girlband-of-the-moment Little Mix will have to offer a live audience- but in the mean time, the Saturdays are doing just fine.
