I love Marilyn Monroe. To clarify- I love the idea of her, the image I have formed in my mind from the many pictures and posters I have of her in my house. As a result, I have always been sceptical that anyone could play her in a film- or live up to the persona I have created.

On Friday night at the QFT, all my worries were dispelled and I was proved well and truly wrong. Michelle Williams was- for one night only- Marilyn Monroe. 'My Week with Marilyn' was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time- not since Helen Mirren in 'The Queen' in 2006 has anyone, in my opinion, portrayed someone so unbelievably well.

MWWM has a stellar cast including Kenneth Brannagh, Dame Judi Dench, Emma Watson and Eddie Redmayne. There are many moments for laughter sprinkled through the underlying sadness created by Williams' incredible depiction of Munroe's childlike vulnerability and insecurity. Brannagh as Sir Laurence Olivier is the bringer of many of these laughs- he is so different in this role to any I have seen him in before and I loved it.

Eddie Redmayne is as captivating as he is captivated with Marilyn- it is both heart-warming and heartbreaking to watch him fall head-over-heels in love with her and it's so clearly written all over his youthful and naive face from the moment he sets eyes on her.

I thought everyone in this film was fabulous- but Michelle Williams is the real star. There were many moments I was so lost in the movie that I forgot I was watching someone play Marilyn Monroe- as I so believed in her performance- that is a seriously unique talent.

In all, I loved every second of 'My Week with Marilyn', as did my mum, and my granny- so this is definitely one for gals of all ages! The QFT is the perfect venue for watching a film- with such lovely surroundings and comfy seats; you can just sit back and be absorbed by whatever is on screen- perfect.
