Beautiful, lucid monsters of the deep sea. A harmonic feel with a hint of chaos!
Fashion design student Julia Sokele’s talent first caught Sugahfix’s eye at the University of Ulster’s 2013 end of year show. Her 2nd year student collection had a maturity and co-hesive collection feel to it that shone out and since then it has featured on the catwalk at Belfast Fashion Week and Newry Style City Afternoon Tea, Click here to view the catwalk photo gallery.
Sugahfix brings you an exclusive on the new collection by rising star Julia Sokele. Julia’s final year collection will be hitting the catwalk for the University of Ulster’s end of year show at T13 on 29th May but we’ve got first look at the collection featuring strong sculptural silhouettes, contrasting textures in tonal shades of white to grey.
The collection is named Physalia as it is inspired by the translucent, luminous jellyfish.
Speaking about her influences she said, “Most of my influences derive from nature and contemporary art. I love the juxtaposition of something natural and man made. My style has always been minimalistic and simple. I have always believed that less is more when it comes to fashion. Texture is very important to me, and I am always on the lookout for intriguing new fabrics and materials that I can surprise my audience with. It is very rewarding and exciting knowing that you have created something unique and individual from materials that are not necessarily made for fashion.”
