EMPIRE

For our latest photoshoot we hark back to an era when Queen Victoria was ruler of the Empire and running away to the circus was the dream, and ruin, of many young girls.

In Empire our models depict a mix of cabaret, circus performers and Moulin Rouge dancers.

New faces Amy, Anna, Emma & Sarah, Hanna and Shonee, elegant and innocent like pre-Raphaelite muses, take the stage at the Empire Music Hall and channel their inner Satine.

Fashion photographer Jessica Weber's inspiration for the shoot was to reflect the dark side to the circus in the Victorian era and the intrigue of the unusual and exotic dancers and performers. "I wanted the photos to be very vibrant but also quite dark with a lot of shadows to add a slightly sinister effect but to be quite edgy and sexy. We even got sisters Emma & Sarah to pose like Siamese twins!"

As Art Director and stylist I wanted each model to embody their character - vulnerable and innocent but with a certain allure and elegance of a dancer. Styling the girls in a mix of local design talent, vintage pieces and treasures from my styling kit I chose headwear by hot-ticket milliner Grainne Maher to add drama and showgirl style while the quirky and fabulous Curious Tales by fashion designer Julie-Anne Graham added an extra circus ringmaster edge.

Make-up artist Paula Fraser created an individual look for each girl reflecting their character. Flawless skin, intense eyes and vibrant colour give classic looks a catwalk update while hairdresser Dyanne Sweeney created modern twists on classic upstyles, finger waves and braids to create dramatic editorial looks.
