Golden Globes Loves and Loathes

GG-emmastone-2012By Katrina Doran

The Golden Globes is always an odd one for spotting the new season trends as there's always a mix of AW (which we're officially still in) and SS for the new season so it can be a bit of a mish-mash.

Best dressed, for me was Emma Stone in Lanvin. The deep claret tone was flawless on her pale skin and the detail on the shoulder and belt gave the dress a little edge that elevated it above the others.

If it hadn't been for her bouffy hair - Zooey Deschanel would have pipped Emma Stone to the post for best dressed. The Prada dress with beaded bodice looked like an embellished graphic print from a distance but up close it was classic beadwork. The clutch was also the perfect match but the only downside was that big blow-dry – it was just too fussy. A more dishevelled upstyle would have given this look a little carefree edge.

Nude is still a big trend for 2012. Nicole Kidman's Atelier Versace gown was a structural masterpiece that created curves that we never knew she had!

Charlize Theron looked divine in Dior – with her softly structured gown perfectly complimented by her tousled side bun and show-stopping encrusted Alice band.

Tilda Swinton walked the red carpet like a flawless ice queen in ice blue! I adore Tilda Swinton's style. GG-zooeydeschanel-2012She never goes with the crowd and always throws something into the mix that gives her look a quirky edge.

Dianna Agron in the red laser cut 'red swan' by Giles was breathtaking! The intricate detail was mind boggling and with her creamy skin and perfectly matched lips – the whole look was stunning.

Fashion fails!

Lea Michelle wore as equally an intricate gown as her Glee co-star but Lea , in Marchesa, got it so wrong. Something like this might have looked amazing on Helen Mirren but on this young actress it looked far too fussy. It looked like she was, literally, trying to outshine her Glee cast members in the metallic gown.

Frida Pinto in Prada and Piper Perabo in Theyskens Theory are both guilty of crimes against fabric. Too much!!

I was glued to the Golden Globes twitter stream to get the first glimpses of the fashion as it hit the red carpet. As the first tweeted pictured of Madonna hit the web I thought she looked fabulous – the glittering bodice looked red carpet worthy although it appeared a little tight on the bust. When I saw the full length shot and got the full impact of the fussy skirt I was so disappointed.

Same went for Angelina Jolie who looked like a snooty Barbie doll. When the cropped image was tweeted on the Golden Globes twitter stream Jolie was holding her red clutch at waist height and the red flashes of her lips, neckline and clutch looked stunning. However, when I saw the fullGG-madonna-2012 length impact of the icy white dress, the colour

completely drained Jolie's super-pale complexion. The Atelier Versace dress fitted her ultra-lean frame to perfection, but those pale bony limbs are looking on the wrong side of healthy.

Kelly Osborne in Zac Posen looked like she was trying to do a copycat of Helen Mirren's Vivienne Westwood gown at the Oscars in 2011. With her hair slicked back into a tight bun - it looked identical to Helen's slicked back style on the night. As huge fans of Fashion Police we know Kelly is a massive Vivienne Westwood fan, so why not get this look from the queen of British fashion herself? She would have made a better job of that stiff fishtail!GG-Angelina-Jolie-2012GG-dianna-agron-2012
