Golden Globes 2010

There's nothing like a red carpet awards do in Hollywood to raise the fashion stakes and even though this years Golden Globes were particularly ‘safe' there was still plenty of ‘stunning'. Although the accessory of the moment turned out to be the Beverly Hilton umbrella the style certainly wasn't a wash out.

Blush and nude tones added sophistication while black was, as always, a popular choice. The big fashion trend to note was the emergence of legs! Short cocktail lengths were just above the knee to show off those pins but still remaining demure. Julia Roberts vintage YSL looked lovely but seemed a little casual for such a grand occasion.

Drew Barrymore pulled it back after her car crash of a look at last years event opting for a very classic and simple hair and make-up with her nude Atelier Versace dress. She could have gone for a slight hint of fake tan just to warm up her skintone with this dress - it's almost an exact match which can look a little odd - we know the colourway is called nude but - ya know!

True Blood's Anna Paquin was our stand out look in a gold Stella McCartney gown - she looked like life-size golden statuette. The texture, the tone, the shape - stunning! Anna's look was and every inch the sexy vamp.

Penelope Cruz looked the essence of glamour in her off the shoulder gown by Armani Prive and proved that you don't need to be wearing this seasons ‘IT' dress to be stylish (it was from Mr. Armani's 2005 collection).

Helen Mirren's black long-sleeved jersey Armani gown with beading detail at the waist is the perfect dress for the more mature lady. Sophia Loren, also wearing Armani, knows how to cover up those upper arms but still show off all those hourglass curves.

We loved Christina Aguilera's new bob hairdo and initially thought the dress was stunning but there was definitely some strange boobage going on with that shaped bodice.

Pinks and purples gave a pop of colour amongst all the neutrals but Sandra Bullock looked like she'd gone for a wee snooze in her frock before she left the house and looked a bit bedraggled in her Bottega Venetta gown.

Cameron Diaz was flying the flag for ‘matchy matchy' with perfectly co-ordinated scarlet lipstick with her Alexander McQueen gown. Chloe Sevingy is usually a style goddess but we're kinda ‘Meh!' about her frilly frock.

Our frock shock winner was Julianne Moore in the most odd black satin dress that made her look like she had a bizarre black caterpillar draped across her shoulders and the most unflattering central seem - ok it was Balenciaga but to represent the uber stylish A Single Man and get photographed with the films director Tom Ford - goodness - what was she thinking? Tom should really have stepped in and sorted that whole situation out.
