It came, we saw it, and now it's gone! This weekend wrapped up the final show from The X Factor in time for Christmas and now the race is on for the coveted Christmas no.1 - not sure about you, but we were glad that talented Matt and Rebecca were in the final two and it was good news that they'd been top of the voting all along, which goes to show that in spite of gimmicks and jokes like Wagner and Katie (and even Cher!), the talent came to the fore in the end.
Anyway, here goes for the last time this year - our bumper article on our loves and loathes!
To kick start proceedings, we'd like to officially crown the champion of style (and practically the champion of the show) as Ms Dannii Minogue. And we know we're not alone here, most of the national magazines agree with us.
We've always been pretty clear that Dannii is our favourite in the style stakes, and this was proven once again on Sunday in the ‘ice queen' dubbed dress by Jenny Packham (a designer favourite of Blush Bridal on the Lisburn Road) which was just as festive as it was fabulous.
She kept accessories to a minimum with Anoushka earrings for both Saturday and Sunday, and her red lips added the finishing touches with a dash of colour.
We think she was really setting a trend with this look and we could see some winter brides following in her footsteps.
Sticking on the subject of jewellery, Cheryl Cole was also wearing coveted Grisogono diamond and ruby earrings while Christina Aguilera was also sporting some designer bling with her Stephen Webster Superstud ring (exclusively available in Northern Ireland from Lunn's!) in her performance with the ever glamorous Rebecca.
There's not enough room here to talk about Christina's overly sexualised performance (ok, we get it, the Burlesque movie etc etc, but c'mon, six year olds watch this bloomin' show!) nor her super puffed face and boobies (is it weight gain, pregnancy, too many fillers... who knows?) so we'll stick to the contestants for now...
Although she didn't win, Rebecca proved herself as a worthy contestant with all her performances at the weekend. Dressed in understated, chic nudes on Saturday, she looked beautiful throughout the four hour weekend extravaganza - even with her amazing Eurythmics dancers in binliners - but our favourite was the Richard Sorger dress with the sequinned shoulders.
And although this dress is old news in terms of the catwalk (SS09 collection!), the good news is that Richard has just designed a capsule collection for ASOS, so if you like this style, check him out online!
Matthew Williamson was favoured on Sunday as Rebecca's closing dress - embodying his autumn/winter collection with beautiful orange and red sequins - this was a stunning seasonal dress for her to finish the show in and complimented her mentor Cheryl's dress well on stage.
We know you're probably dying to know where Cher bought her cupcake-like skirt from the Will.i.am duet - NOT! - we hated that silver pleated Dr Oetker looking THING by Jones and Jones, and yet another shirt with bow tie combo - didn't like this on her at all.
In fact, haven't really liked much of what she has worn, so we're glad that she's gone, (for now) but we are a tad curious to know what her single performance would have been... hmmm?!
Rumour has it that Simon ditched the stylists' looks for One Direction's first performance on Saturday by telling the boys to pick what they wanted - and they didn't do too badly.
Plus it meant that they were comfortable at such a nerve wracking time - smooth move, Simon, you know all the tricks of the trade! In their performance with Robbie it was like a real Boyz to Men moment when they appeared in dapper suits that would make any mother proud.
Louis may have been the flavour of the night as he was given the suit that stood out a little more in terms of colour (from ASOS) and he was also given the privilege of introducing Robbie Williams - not a task we would have been jumping to do, we're so over attention-grabbing Robbie!
Back to fashion though and now onto the winner - ‘Canary' Cardle as we nicknamed him on Sunday night.... We can't even remember anything that he wore apart from those canary yellow trousers - eew!
Then to make matters even worse, the violinists appeared in a clashing shade of yellow complimented by the smurf-like dancers. WTF?!
Was the show's fashion director Grace Woodward peeved since their break up and committing fashion crimes against him? Very strange set up, and after that we were worried he may have ruined his chances of success, but were relieved that he pulled through despite the fashion faux pas!
There are SO many things to talk about that we just can't fit it all in, but other highlights of ours included the aforementioned bin bag dresses worn by dancers with Rebecca on Sunday (they were class!), Rihanna's whole production with its African theme for her performance was amazing (check out ASOS Africa to pick up similar styles for yourself) and what a beautiful moment when all the X Factor contestants returned to support Matt at the end dressed from head to toe in white - can't beat a bit of white in the lead up to Christmas! Actually, we might regret saying that now if we get another burst of snow!!
That's it from us guys and gals, we hope you have enjoyed reading our (sometimes very opinionated) column! We look forward until next year's fresh meat, so until then... xx mwah xx
