As the new autumn fashion season approaches it's hard to let go of our favourite summer items so the key fashion styling tip is layering! You can still wear your denim shorts and cute t-shirts but layer up with waistcoats, cardigans and lightweight jackets.
The quilted jacket is the biggest 'Must-have' item of the moment – available in green in Topshop, Navy in Dorothy Perkins, Black in H&M and taupe in Rocha.John Rocha in Debenhams – Rushmere is the place to pick up one of these autumn essentials. Light and handy to chuck on when going shopping – they're as practical as they are stylish, as they'll keep out the wind and the rain as the season turns from autumn to winter.
We love this super-cute quilted jacket from DV8 at Tempest (pictured left). The punchy cobalt blue colour really stands out amidst all the autumnal tones – if you like your fashion with a bit of clout then this is the jacket for you.
I've layered it over a brushed cotton checked shirt and soft suedette waistcoat for a huggable look.
Toes are the first things to feel the cold so ditch the sandals and cosy-up those tootsies with a pair of faux-fur trimmed ankle boots. Faux fur will add an extra dimension to boots and bags and instantly add warmth.

Whether you have amazingly long legs like Lynley or just have a great pair of pins – a cute cord mini is a great transitional wardrobe item. Perfect on bare legs with a slick of fake tan or with a pair of woolly tights and chunky boots in the depths of winter. Fair isle cardigans are a big look for autumn and instantly add a layer of loveliness to a light t-shirt.
Styling tip: Pick out the colours in a t-shirt print or cardi – like the lemon in Lynley's t-shirt and the lilac tone in the cardi and stack little plaited bracelets on one wrist to really make those colours pop. A statement cocktail ring is also a great way to stamp a colour on your look and they don't have to be expensive. H&M have some fantastic rings for under a fiver that look fabulous! We're loving this large rust stone ring from H&M for just £3.99.
Fur-trimmed, laced-up heeled boots were big last year and they're even bigger this AW. You'll wear these every day so they're a great investment buy.
