The reduce, reuse, recycle message is being bombarded at us constantly and rightly so. But it's not all about paper and glass and household waste.
The past trend of cheap throwaway fashion is fading and investment buying is on the rise. Vintage clothing has never been so on trend. Apart from finding a treasure that no-one else will have, the cut, fabric and construction is often so superior that these items will last for generations to come - all feeding into the idea that fashion should not be a throw away, one season wonder. And with events like the Frock Around The Clock Vintage fair - it's never been easier to get your hand on fabulous vintage finds.
The concept of customizing or recycling fashion is also a hot topic with Gok Wan customizing high street pieces to give them 'designer detail' on Gok's fashion fix.
Photographer Ruairi Drayne photographed two statuesque models Denisa and Cara, dressed in vintage from Decadence Vintage and recycled fashion from Julian Graham's Curious Tales.
Suzan and Johnny from Zuni Hair Consultants created a modern twist on the twiggy crop and the classic 60's bouffant bob.
Hairdresser Suzan Manning advises, "Rocking the vintage look is all about reworking the classics. Back comes the backcombing and the sculpted silhouette. A strong outline haircut worn in a disheveled way gives this image a fresh modern feel. Bold block colour, luminous blondes, cool sophisticated brunettes or sassy redheads can all work the retro vibe. It's a fun and frivolous trend, so don't take it too seriously you can be "too vintage" unless you're Imelda May or Dita Von Teese!"
Make-up artist Laura Pollack updated the 60's wide eyed doll look, keeping the focus on the eyes with lashes long and exaggerated and teamed them with a neutral-toned lip with a hint of coral - a look that is bang on trend for SS09.
