Call it a mac, call it a trench: whatever you call it, make sure you have at least one in your wardrobe.
The term ‘Mac' comes from the original Mackintosh coat (it's a bit like calling a vacuum cleaner a ‘Hoover' - we all do it! ) which started out life as a light raincoat and in our fair isle a raincoat is something we all need.
It's a fashion essential and perfect for early summer - that time of year when you're never sure if you're going to get the head blown off you or you're going to be drenched in sunshine rather than rain.
Double breasted is super flattering and the belt cinches in that waist. We're loving Alexa Chung's denim version from New Look as well as Giles Deacons buttoned mac - Gold by Giles £50. We're also loving New Look's long ruffle mac at just £28 - a perfect statement coat for cool June days and cooler summer nights.
