Just when fashion was seeming a bit samey - trends being revamped from last season, previous years and vintage designs - the students of Northern Ireland made the Sugahfix gals squeal with delight at their unbridaled creativity and their obvious passion for fashion.
The future of the fashion industry in Northern Ireland is simply inspiring when you see the standard and creativity of the next generation of designers and fashion students showcased at the second night of West Coast Cooler FASHION WEEK. With fantastic attention to detail to the overall garment construction, the use textures, materials and eye popping colour - the student show was a feast for the eyes and with dresses made from sweetie wrappers, crisp packets and tins of Coca-cola and Magners cider - it seems there must have been a feast before the leftovers became some fabulous fashion creations.
The Innovation Fashion-ation initiative from Creative Youth Partnership, which works with students from the North East and South East Education Library Boards and The North West Regional College, brought a flurry of innovative fashion to the catwalk and wowed the crowds with their creativity and flair for fashion design. The students, whose ages ranges from 16 - 18, got the chance to showcase their original work for the first time on a FASHIONWEEK catwalk. Featured creations included sweetie shop delights, shoreline inspired designs, 80's punk and a nostalgic look back on Belfast.
