In their first challenge the finalists took part in a fashion photoshoot showcasing Una Rodden’s SS16 collections. Accessories from Grainne Maher::Vault boutique in Spire’s Mall complimented Una’s garments with handmade jewellery by Emma Manley, painted leather bags by Lisa Ryder and studded leather accessories by Una Burke and millinery by Grainne Maher.
I had a particulrly busy little day – art directing and styling the shoot – as well as creating a makeup look for one of the finalists. Well us gals are expert multitaskers eh?
“We wanted to create a looks that compliments the clothes but that also looked like a makeup collection,” said Pamela Smyth at The Makeup Dept. “Flawless skin with heather and berry tones worked with Una’s first colour story of dusky pink silks. For the second colour story from Una’s collection the makeup picked up on one accent of vibrant emerald green, bright pinks and zesty orange.”
Melissa’s doe eyed look and pouty lips were a joy for makeup artist Eden to work on. Eden went for an elegant ‘expensive’ look with sculpted cheeks and a soft blended look on the lids.
Dionne has a really international look the sort of girl you could imagine fronting a campaign for Topshop. Super strong bone structure and hair that goes on forever Rosie went for a strong catwalk look with a barely there look to the skin and neon pop under the eyes for high fashion impact.
Caitlyn has the perfect model frame and bone structure with long lean limbs and soft expression. Louise’s makeup look was all about flawless skin and lashes with soft brows and a berry lip for extra shine.
Chloe has a classic model look and a natural elegance so for her makeup look it was too obvious to do a classic winged out eye so I went for a modern take on a 70s look with a Nars berry lip. Chloe’s brows are very strong so I blocked them out with concealer to take the emphasis away from them onto the eyes with layers of cream eyeshadow and Bella Pierre pigment blended into a rounded shape and lashings of mascara.
Rebecca’s film star hair styled and super elegant coat dressed called for something with subtle wow with her makeup so Aisling picked out the colours in the bird of paradise print or Rebecca’s lashes. With cheekbones to die for Aisling created a flawless skin finish and soft lip.
Orlaigh’s colour-pop blouse and flared skirt give her a classic Hollywood starlet look. Francess created a strong winged liner look picking out the emerald green and creating a second line above the liquid liner for graphic effect. We love!
The location for the fashion shoot was the chic studio of Thompson Clarke interior designers. I spotted Thompson Clarke’s interior design studio in the building across the way from The Make up Dept. in Portview Trade Centre as they always have fabulous lamps and furniture in the window including a huge real Olive tree! It’s a beautiful space and married with the colours and textures of Una Rodden’s collection really beautifully. The models just had to walk across the link between the two buildings to the location – practicing their catwalk skills as they went! It was ideal!
