Heart of Glass

I'm not a fan of plastic bottles. For a start, it's been claimed that a harmful chemical, bisphenol A (BPA), can leach out of them, especially when they've been heated or are subject to repeated use.

The fear is that BPA may be linked prostate and breast cancer, reduced fertility and behavioural problems in children. But, legitimate health concerns aside, and to be totally girly about it, glass bottles are just so much nicer, natural and prettier on your bathroom shelf.

So, featuring large in the Green Living bathroom right now are some lovely recycled glass bottles filled with premium organic skincare brand, Spiezia Organics, who care about looking after the world as much as they care about looking after the body.

As well as the glass bottles, which I'm loving, I also like the ethos behind the brand, which aims to provide care for body, mind and spirit.

So not only will you find beauty products such as the gorgeous Floral Skin Toner (£16.50 for 100ml), boasting, amongst other ingredients, sage and chamomile oil, you can also pick up fragrances for the home along with holistic ointments, such as arnica (good for bruises) and calendula (for irritated skin).

From firming oils to foot balms, as well as a mother and baby line, which includes an organic nappy salve (£12.50), you can get just about everything you need to treat your body and soul.

Personally, I'm mad about the travel collection of colourful, cute miniatures, which are perfect for weekends away (not to mention those nights when you're being a dirty stop-out but still care enough about your skin to carry some beauty products in your handbag).

The mini Facial Cleanser, boasting extra virgin olive oil, chamomile, marigold, eucalyptus and grapefruit seed extract, costs £8.75 and comes in a handy, pocket-and-purse sized 10ml tin pot.

Every product in every pot, jar or bottle is hand-made on a farm in Cornwall, and contain no chemicals, additives or nasties, and they all come with the Soil Association stamp of approval.

The firm's holistic approach to health, beauty and well-being means that every product has been designed to fit in with the Spiezia philosophy - ‘Made for Life'.

In fact, the firm has developed a manufacturing process which manages to sound both scientific and deeply dippy - solar and lunar energy is utilised to make the most of the air-dried herbs and flowers that are used in the products.

Plant essences are sourced by taking a measured quantity of herbs and flowers, mixing it with a quantity of extra virgin olive oil and allowing it to stand in a glass jar in a special room for four weeks.

Over the weeks, the heat from the sun and the chill from the cooler nights draws the essence from the plant and infuses the oil - which frankly, makes it all sound good enough to drizzle on your salad, never mind smother your body with.

So far, so good - but do these goodies work? Yes and yes! The organic Daytime Moisturiser (£19.50 for 30ml) featuring delicious ingredients such as rose buds and vanilla, and the geranium, lavender and mandarin-infused Organic Body Oil (£22 for 100ml) both left my skin feeling silky soft, nourished and smelling delicious.

You can buy Spiezia products in Harvey Nichols, Dundrum, or visit the website at www.spieziaorganics.com .
