The number thirteen is generally considered unlucky, but for one talented hairdresser it was to be the luckiest number of all. For thirteen years Keith Kane has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Northern Ireland category at the British Hairdressing Awards, and for twelve years that sleek silver trophy has eluded him. Every year he produced a set of beautiful photographs and year after year he watched as another hairdresser scooped the title. Most people would have given up a century ago, but not Keith.

Keith won the incredibly prestigious title of World Champion at the 1989 World Hairdressing Championships in Tokyo and with this amazing accolade under his belt he must have felt the Northern Ireland title was just a matter of time and yes - it was - a long time!

But on Monday 24th November 2008 Keith and his team arrived once again at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel on London's Park Lane - the ‘home' of the British Hairdressing Awards.

The British Hairdressing Awards, now in their 24th year, are the ‘Oscars' of the hairdressing world, and recognise and celebrate the creativity of the inspirational British hairdressing industry.

The British Hairdressing Awards, presented by Hairdressers Journal International and sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional was compered by TV personality Graham Norton with entertainment provided by soul diva and fashionista Mica Paris.

The collection of hair images submitted for this year competition were inspired by the mannequins in the windows of Saks Fifth Ave in New York.

Keith produced a collection of hair styles with an almost wiggy feel - with strong reds and rich brunette tones and featureing curly shapes -technically very difficult to do well - that obviously won the judges approval.

After receiving the award, Keith exclaimed; "I was so pleased to win Northern Ireland Hairdresser of the Year, it means so much to not only myself but everyone connected with Keith Kane Hair International.

This award is also a great tribute to the fantastic hairdressing talent and creativity within Northern Ireland.

2008 has been a fantastic year for the entire team at the salon and I would like to dedicate this award to my team as without their amazing help and support I would not have won this award."
