Mayle is a jewel box find amongst the hotbed of independents rooted in Nolita. Over the past few years Mayle’s reputation has cart-wheeled with select designs making their way into Barney’s Co-Ops throughout the city (sigh, I don’t want to share!). The teeny boutique space is simple but super-charming with more than a hint of francais – not surprising when the owner, Jane Mayle’s father is the author of ‘A Year in Provence’. Once inside, where to start? In addition to the vintage treasures and quirky finds, the Mayle line itself is impossible to resist and should you succumb, be prepared to hear ‘where did you get that’ on repeat (who’s complaining there!). Each season, despite the varying themes, the collection somehow manages to combine vintage style, girly indulgence and worldly charm to create unique and completely must-have pieces.
NYC Insider Tip: Pick up the look book on the counter, the styling is always inspirational – you’ll never be stuck for how to put an outfit together again!

I heart ‘I Heart’. This boutique epitomizes New York – it’s quirky, it’s diverse, it’s cutting-edge and full of creative, inspiring pieces. The range of designers is vast (from Philip Lim and Karen Walker to Catherine Holstein and Lonely Hearts) and the collections include limited-edition and one-of-a-kind accessories which are thrilling to stumble across. Be advised, 10 minutes won’t cut it here, take your time to browse, soak up the artsy, music-inspired interior and take a step closer to New-Yorker-dom.
NYC Insider Tip: the artwork which decorates I Heart’s walls is also for sale, it’s up high but not to be missed!
Young designers market
268 Mulberry Street
(Between Houston & Prince)

One of a few great markets within the city to find young, up-and-coming designers (our own Sevy Design was discovered here!)- with some of the best talent focusing on jewellery and leather goods, there are some great bargains to be had, and super cool new labels to spot and support. It’s definitely acceptable to haggle a little over prices too – joy!
NYC Insider Tip: if you see it and you like it, get it. Designers don’t always return week after week so make sure you snag their digits if you want to track them down again!
Once you’ve exhausted Nolita (unlikely!) and fancy venturing further a field, other hidden jewels in the Manhattan crown now to be missed include….
