Just when you thought it was all over with Strictly Come Dancing and the X Factor, two local stars have been pitted against each other in another battle for popularity.

Christine Bleakley and Eoghan Quigg are to fight it out to be crowned Northern Ireland's Best Media Personality.

The pair have been shortlisted in the Fate Awards 09 in association with Carling.

Also in the running in the same category are local DJ's Pete Snodden, Colin Murray and Sonya Mac.

But the big battle is expected to be between One Show presenter Christine - a popular contestant on Strictly Come Dancing - and Dungiven teenager Eoghan Quigg, who made it to the final of the X Factor.

And although we here at Sugahfix love them both, our money's on the gorgeous Christine.

The shortlist concludes six weeks of voting by members of the public recognising the best of Northern Ireland's bars, restaurants and clubs in 16 individual categories.

The organisers of the Carling Fate Awards received over 75,000 - the biggest to date for the awards bash.

The 16 categories are: Best Media Personality, Best Cocktail Bar, Best Style Bar, Best Chef, Best Classic Bar, Best Gastro Bar, Best Front of House, Best Club, Best DJ, Best Gay Venue, Best Live Venue, Best Restaurant, Best Newcomer, Best Regional Bar, Best Regional Restaurant and Best Regional Club. The top five nominations will now be put forward to a panel of judges.

The awards do - always a highlight in the social calendar in Belfast - will take place at the Waterfront Hall on Friday, April 3.

The Media Personality Award is to be named after Sugahfix's good pal, Colin Angus, the Co Down business and PR man who was tragically killed in a car accident in December 2008.

Fate magazine publisher Michael Bell said: "Colin was a true gentleman and a great friend in every sense of the word. He was always up for a party and he loved the media scene in Northern Ireland.

"He was a great sounding board when it came to the Fate Awards and so it is only right that we remember him with the Best Media Personality Award.

“I know he’d love it and I’m sure he’ll be looking down on us on April 3.”

Due to phenomenal demand, the Waterfront Hall has released  an additional 10 tables. The tables will go on sale at 9am on Friday and are available by calling 028 90 236888. The full shortlist details are in the February edition of Fate.
