Belfast Belle at the BAFTA's

It was a good night at the Baftas for home-grown talent with several stars picking up gongs, while other well-known faces presented them.

Belfast-born actor Kenneth Branagh was delighted to win a coveted Bafta for the detective series Wallander, which was named best drama at the lavish ceremony on Sunday night. Branagh took on the lead role in the show, playing an angst-ridden detective. Wallander beat Spooks, Doctor Who and Shameless to win the award.

And Belfast man Bill Neely was part of the News at Ten team which won for its work on the Chinese earthquake. Bill began his career at the BBC in Belfast.

Presenting gongs on the night - Sugahfix favourites Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles of the One Show and James Nesbitt. Christine looked gorgeous in a floor-sweeping chocolate brown dress.

A special mention must also go to the beautiful Ben Whishaw, who missed out on winning an award for best actor for his brilliant and mesmeric performance in last year's television drama Criminal Justice.

Ben lost out to Stephen Dillane, who won for his role in The Shooting of Thomas Hurndall. But we here at Sugahfix think a terrible injustice was done and that Brit actor Ben was robbed.

benwhishaw.jpgBen can be seen in the new Jane Campions movie Bright Star - an aptly named film title for a star on the rise. He plays the poet John Keats in the love story and all we can say is lucky Abbie Cornish, who plays his leading lady.  Really, any excuse just to use his pic!
